PigCHAMP was designed by researchers at the University of Minnesota to help farms increase production and profits. PigCHAMP 4.10 is the program's newest version for DOS.

Product Enhancements

• Normal Program users can utilize the Copy Macro Utility. In one easy step, you can copy a macro from one farm to another.
• The Consultant Program can utilize the Merge Files Utility. The consultants are now allowed to merge farms within their program.
• Version 4.10 contains an automatic upload for Vision. Detailed instructions are available on the Vision website. This is a real time saver for Vision subscribers.
• Summary Card Printing format returned to the 4.05 format to correct a spacing issue.
• The FBS Promise files are included within the program. Generate the setfbsif.bat file once the 4.10 file is installed.
• The Database Application's Report Screen will maintain the filter in 1000-day format once a report is generated.
• Summary Card Printing format returns to the 4.05 format to correct a spacing issue.
• The Sales Destination Summary is generated correctly.
• Old Farrowing Rate Reports can be generated for 52 weeks. In 4.03, the limit was 16 weeks.
• Normal Users are now allowed to have up to 99 user-defined reports for each report that is available in this format. This allows you to have specific reports for each farm. In the past, only one user-defined report was allowed.

PigCHAMP Print Utility

This program works directly in the Windows environment and helps solve any DOS printing problems.

The PigCHAMP Print Utility makes printing possible on any printer, even if your printer is not DOS compatible or will not work in PigCHAMP. All you need to do is save your PigCHAMP to an ASCII text file, open the PigCHAMP Print Utility, click on the saved file and the PigCHAMP print utility takes over.

This program also allows you to print your PigCHAMP reports in Windows without having to manually format the files. And it allows you to set the page margins and select a fixed-width font for your report, and automatically resizes the font to best fit your Windows printer. User settings are saved in the Windows' registry, so you only have to set them once.

The program is designed to work with PigCHAMP version 4.05 and later (including Consultant versions). After loading the text file and determining the printable width of your printer, the program automatically resizes the font to fit the page (minimum size of 6 points, maximum size of 14 points) based on your font and page margin selections, and the widest line in the text file.

1. Record your farm's performance. Simply carry your pocket diary and record information throughout the day. Or, you may prefer to use the PSIONTM hand-held computer as part of the PigCHAMP Care™ Instant Data System™.
2. Enter your data. You have two options for entering your data into the actual PigCHAMP Care™ software. Send the data to a bureau or enter your own data on-farm. With the PigCHAMP Care™ Instant Data System™, you can digitally upload your data to a bureau or your own computer.
3. View reports. Within 24 to 48 hours of sending your data to the PigCHAMP Care™ bureau, you will receive your reports (use fax or e-mail daily for fastest results). For those entering data on-farm, you will begin processing reports within minutes.

PigCHAMP Instant Data SystemTM Handheld (IDS)

An alternative method of data entry is capturing data with a handheld computer that then transfers the information into your computer. The handheld computer utilized is called a PSION Workabout™.

The Instant Data System (IDS) is a second-generation technology in swine data management. The IDS consists of a handheld computer containing the unique IDS data entry software program designed for daily recording of events as they occur in the barn. The system is a computerized substitute for the well-known diary card/form system.

The new PSION hand held computer system has many features and advantages for handheld computing in a swine production system. The PSION advantages include:

• Lighter weight, less than 33% of the Symbol (earlier handheld unit) weight
• Rugged and durable outer shell
• Back light LCD display and alpha-numeric key pad
• Fits comfortably in the user’s hand
• Operates on two AA batteries
• Contains a true database format
• Screen displays very intuitive navigation with drop down menus and pick lists
• Synchronization routine between multiple hand held computers is controlled by a PC

Once the animal is identified, the diary program of the system verifies the animal’s proper status and validates entry of an appropriate event into that animal’s record. For instance, a lactating female must have a valid weaning date before breeding can be recorded.

The IDS™ will accommodate any size farm. One handheld computer is recommended for each increment of 500 sows up to a maximum of four PSION handheld computers. The system will accommodate sites with multiple handhelds by keeping each synchronized with each other via a daily update routine managed by the PigCHAMP™ Client Center Controller™ software. On a daily basis, this application collects data from each handheld and updates each device with a common, up-to-date database. This routine occurs on-site. The information is verified and automatically copied, via modem, to the host system.
The diary event information is then electronically verified, and transferred into the farm’s database at the host, processed, and the weekly compliment of PigCHAMP reports are printed and sent to the farm.
